Handyman Connection Home Improvement Company Partners With Ronald McDonald Charities

CINCINNATI, OH– “The House that Love Built,” the Ronald McDonald House in Colorado Springs, Colorado just got cozier with the help of Handyman Connection. In honor of the Ronald McDonald House’s 25th birthday, the home improvement company donated time and materials to make two rooms safer and more comfortable. In appreciation for the company’s generous assistance, the charity recently recognized Handyman Connection as Corporate Supporter of the Year.

The Colorado Springs Ronald McDonald House is one of more than 300 around the world, each dedicated to providing a no-cost home away from home for families of critically injured or seriously ill children receiving treatment in a nearby hospital.

Steven McCoy, president and owner of home improvement company Handyman Connection, Colorado Springs, first got involved with Ronald McDonald House Charities in August, 2011. A 16-year-old boy had been in a serious car accident involving a drunk driver and the doctors warned he might be brain dead. His family needed a place to stay while their son received the treatment for his injuries, but the Ronald McDonald House only had one unoccupied room and it was unsafe because of a fallen ceiling fan.

That’s when Handyman Connection stepped in to help. Within an hour of receiving a call from the Ronald McDonald House Charities development coordinator, who had personally used the home improvement company, Handyman Connection was at the house. Not only did Handyman donate repair of the fallen fan, they also went room to room to check and fix all the ceiling fans in the house.

With the room now considered habitable, the family in need was welcomed. Fortunately, the boy did better than expected. With great care and the comfort of his parents nearby, he healed and was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital closer to his family’s home in Northern Colorado within a month.

“We like to donate to the Ronald McDonald House because we believe in what they’re doing,” said McCoy. “For children, the best thing they can do is have their families with them when they’re ill, and the Ronald McDonald House does that.”

Handyman’s partnership with Ronald McDonald House continues as the home improvement company donates house repair and maintenance for the charity residence. With their help, the Ronald McDonald House, which has housed more than 800 families since opening its doors in 1987, has been able to continue serving families in need without interruption.
